“

Oliver stared at the volcanoes, one after another, spitting flames and boiling lava. It looked like pictures he’d seen of Earth when it was just getting started, black and red and vicious, but awesome.

    Waterstone’s Ayr Branch

First contact between earth and other intelligent life-forms – is it a big leap for mankind or is it just a hoax? As the sceptical human race is thrust into reality by receiving a n invitation to the 5000th Junior Galactic Games unsuspecting Oliver Togg is picked to represent the human race as one of the competitors. An original take on the space story theme with a warm-hearted and loveable main character. Young Oliver’s new experiences in this funny story show that it isn’t always winning the race that matters.

As soon as I got into the first few chapters it got very interesting. I thought the way the author created some of the characters and the way he described everything was very creative and I thoroughly enjoyed the book in that way. There were a few twists and turns and some things you thought would happen didn’t and I think that is a shame. It is a very good book to read on flights, trains etc or even just sitting at home. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I never wanted it to end.

I stayed up late reading it under the covers. The part I liked the most is when Olympius first comes down to Earth in a spaceship because everyone is very confused to meet an alien and the prime minister gets goosebumps. I would definitely recoommend Star Games. I think half of England would like it.

Dedication

Book dedications have always intrigued me, but so far I’ve never seen a website dedication. Perhaps this is the first. As it says in The Last Garden, “So special, so loved, so missed.” This little dedication is For Ana.
